We ran a workshop at a middle school in Albuquerque and then headed all the way to Austin!
We started off the day by visiting a the Public Academy for Performing Arts in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We were invited in to do a workshop at a middle school film class. So it wasn’t our standard visit but it went well. The students had worked with CodeHS in the Hour of Code so we started off by answering questions that they had about coding and its applications.
We then continued the workshop and let students continue to work as we walked around helping out. There was a lot of excitement in the classroom.
We spoke with the film teacher who welcomed us in and explained how their school is set up. Since it is a performing arts school they don’t have computer science or similar classes though they’d want to offer them. She told us that “this is the closest they get to coding” when referring to the film class. She mentioned that lots of students are excited about programming when they do it so they may try to do more in the future.
This was our biggest driving day. We started in Albuquerque, New Mexico and drove to Austin, Texas, which is over 10 hours! We left in the morning and took a good number of breaks and ended up arriving a little past 1am.
