Today we visited Omaha South High School and Marian High School!
We started off our day by visiting Omaha South High School. At this school we got to meet with two teachers teaching computer science. It was a lot of fun.
We first went to the computer lab where teach some of their classes. They had a very cool setup going where they had taken some Raspberry Pis and had connected those to monitors as well as networked them to a central computer so that students could very easily log in. That was a setup for only a small number of computers but was a pretty cool and effective use case for Raspberry Pis.
They teach computer science and game design, and explained a little bit about how their class worked and how they used CodeHS. Lana was a very kind host, and also told us about some of the summer school programs they were teaching with Minecraft modding for younger students. It was overall very exciting, and I think they had the excitement and creativity in their program which is a mark of a great classroom!
We later got to visit Marian High School, which is an all girls high school. They started teaching their first python class this year but are looking for ways to improve the class and materials.
Then we drove to Denver. Here were the directions from Omaha to Denver.
