We can visit schools to run workshops for students, for teachers, meet with principals, district admins, school boards, and present to assemblies!
We’ve had almost 1,000 school visit requests on the CodeHS Road Trip which we are very excited about. Many people have asked what types of visits we can do, so I’m going to outline them here.
Student Workshop: Introduction to Coding
The student workshops that we run are geared towards students who have never done any coding before. These workshops are generally 1 hour long and are an exciting introduction to programming. We’ll also do a Q&A at the end about applications of computer science. We’ve run almost 100 of these workshops before.
Classroom Visit
Our classroom visits are a bit more passive than our workshops. In our workshops we lead the class and introduce coding with CodeHS. We also like to observe how schools are teaching computer science already, whether or not they are using CodeHS. In these visits we’ll just observe the classroom and ask questions to students and teachers.
Workshop for Teachers: Introduction to Coding
While we run many workshops for students, we also run workshops for teachers as an introduction to coding. These sessions are usually 1 hour to 1 hour and a half and are similar to student workshops but geared towards teachers. This is a hands-on workshop to teach coding and we’ll talk a little bit about how teachers lead these classes.
Teacher Professional Development Session
Our teacher professional development sessions are a bit more in-depth than our introduction to coding workshops. The intro to coding workshops are more focused on learning the basics while the professional development sessions have a much larger focus on teaching these classes, debugging, and what computer science means for your students. These workshops are usually 1–3 hours long. We do longer multi-day or bootcamp professional development sessions, though not on this trip.
Meetings with Principals
We can meet with principals who are looking to bring in new computer science classes as well as with principals who are looking to expand or modernize their computer science classes. We bring expertise from thousands of implementations to help you teach best-in-class courses.
Meetings with District Administrators
We can meet with district administrators who are looking to bring in new computer science classes, or improve existing computer science classes, or simply are looking for the right tools to teach computer science.
Presentations to School Boards
We can present to school boards about the importance of computer science as well as how CodeHS is used in schools all over the country and world to teach classes.
School Assembly Presentations on the Importance of Computer Science
We can give presentations to school assemblies about the importance and applications of computer science. These presentations are meant to get students excited about what they can do with coding as well as well as show them a way that they can get started.
