Today we visited McEachern High School and Forest Park High School!
Today we ran workshops at a few schools in the Atlanta area. First we visited McEachern High School. McEachern High School is a large public school in Cobb County School District. We visited a class that had been using CodeHS. We got to do a lot of question answer with the students about the different places that you’ll see the applications of coding.
We then headed over to Forest Park High School for another workshop. We were invited by Rhonda Carpenter, who is looking for a way to teach computer science in her school. She understands it’s an opportunity she wants to provide to her students. We ran a coding workshop to help get students going on their first hour of code.
About halfway into the class period, we were joined by the assistant principal, who also got to try out coding on CodeHS for himself! As the students finished their first hour, they would get their badge printed out. Students liked the workshop, but wondered — does coding apply anywhere? We got to spend time talking about the applications of coding across all industries.
“7th period is my most challenging class.
To see them engaged like that is great.”
Rhonda was really impressed by how engaged all of the students were with coding. She said, “7th period is my most challenging class. To see them engaged like that is great.”
